2011 Lake Panorama National GC Junior Golf Programs:

Junior Golf at Lake Panorama National continues to be successful thanks to the help from LPN Members, organizations and businesses whose contributions are invaluable to the success of the program. Guthrie County State Bank, Lake Panorama Association, Panora Youth First and the Lehman Memorial Junior Golf Fund have contributed greatly to our programs.

Lake Panorama National Golf Course provides many opportunities for juniors to get involved in golf. Below highlights some of our programs for 2011.

Annual Junior Golf Memberships. (open to public)
LPN offers Memberships to Juniors under age 18 at the following rates:

LPA Members: $315+tax
Non Residents of LPA: $325+tax

Note: Junior Memberships not required if parents purchase Family Golf Membership.

Individual Junior Golf Lessons: (open to public)
LPN offers lessons to juniors from our PGA Professionals:

- John Dinnebier, PGA (2010 Iowa Golf Professional of the Year)
- Gary Babcock, PGA (2009 & 2010 Iowa Junior Golf Leader of the Year)
- Mike Kleinwolterink. (2008 Iowa Assistant Professional of the Year)

Junior Lesson Rates: $20 per half hour lesson.

13th Annual Junior Golf School (open to public)

Dates: Weds. June 8, 15, 22 and 29. (June 29 locations is at the Panorama West Course (par 3)
Time: 10am to 11am
Cost: $50 per student (fee covers all 3 school days and final event/pizza party at Par 3 course)
Entry Deadline: June 1, 2011.

Note: Junior School provides basic instruction from PGA Professionals and LPN Staff. Perfect for beginning golfers of all skill levels.

Junior Golf League (LPN Members Only)

Dates: Every Monday from June 6th thru August 15th (11 Weeks)
Time: 5:30pm
Cost: Free. Includes official handicap from the Iowa Golf Association.
Entry Deadline: Monday, May 2, 2011.

Note 1: Boys must be able to walk 9 holes, carry their clubs, and be able to keep score.

3rd Annual Junior Ryder Cup (LPN Members Only)
The 3rd Annual Junior Boys & Girls Ryder Cup Match is available to all Junior Golf League Members. The date will be Tuesday, August 16th. This years Captains are Adam Hackfort and George Appleseth.

Junior Golf Interclub Matches (LPN Members Only)

LPN will be taking a boys Junior Golf Team to participate in an Interclub Match with the Briarwood Club of Ankeny this summer. The date of the match will be determined by mid February. We expect at least 8 boys will be invited to participate. More details will follow regarding this event.

Panora Family Tee Program (open to public)

Dates: July 10, 17 and 24.
Time: 5:30pm
Cost:
LPN Members: Free.
LPA Members: $26.75 per Family. (includes all green fees and golf carts)
Non Residents of LPA: $41.73 per Family. (includes all green fees and golf carts)
Entry Deadline: Weekly sign-ups. Sign up by making tee time at the Pro Shop.

Note: The Family Tee Program is a great way for beginning golfers to get out and learn the game in a pressure-free atmosphere. It’s also a great way to encourage family togetherness. Starting times are spaced out beginning at 5:30 allowing plenty of time between groups so players do not feel pressured. We recommend juniors tee off from the 150 Yard Poles in center of the fairway. Everyone – Mom, Dad, and the Kids – Play from the same tees.

Winter Golf at the Elementary School (panorama school boys and girls)

Winter Golf begins the first Wednesday in February.

Wednesday nights at 7pm to 8:30pm. Thanks to the help of volunteers and contributors we now have available golf nets, golf mats, teaching aids and drills. Free instruction, advice and tips are available from Gary Smool and PGA Member Gary Babcock.

Brokers International Ltd Iowa Open Championship

LPN’s Junior Golf League can serve as Volunteers for the Iowa Open. Juniors are placed on the Driving Range Committee and will serve under the direction of Leroy Oxley (Iowa Open Tournament Director). We expect Zach Irving to lead the Driving Range Committee again this year. All Juniors who volunteer will receive a Iowa Open T-Shirt and Volunteer Cap. This is an excellent opportunity for our juniors to see the finest golfers in Iowa.

Junior Golf Equipment

The Lake Panorama National Pro Shop carries a variety of golf equipment for junior golfers. We are a partner with U.S. Kids Golf—the No. 1 Brand in Junior golf – worldwide. We also stock junior equipment from Paragon Sports. We use a fitting method to ensure juniors have the right length of golf clubs. In addition to clubs, we sell gloves, golf shoes and many other accessories for the junior golfer.

Statewide Tournaments

In addition to events at Lake Panorama, juniors have access to many golf activities in Iowa. To check tournament information at other courses please visit the Iowa PGA Section and Iowa Golf Association websites. The Iowa PGA section has the Pee Wee Tour and Junior Golf Tour available. The websites are: iowapga.com and iowagolf.org.

Every year we travel to the State Pee Wee in Grinnell and a few other Pee Wee tour and Junior Tour sites. As our program gets bigger, we may need some help with transportation.

Lake Panorama Selected to Host Iowa State Junior

Iowa Junior Amateur, IWGA Girls’ Junior to share dates, site in 2011

The Iowa Golf Association (IGA) and the Iowa Women’s Golf Association (IWGA) have announced plans to share the same dates and site for the state’s junior amateur championships. Lake Panorama National Golf Course in Panora will host the Iowa Junior Amateur and the IWGA Girls’ Junior on June 13th and 14th, 2011. Both associations approved this move at their annual fall board meetings.

The Iowa Junior Amateur, conducted by the IGA, has four age divisions: 11 and under, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18. The IWGA Girls’ Junior will have the same age divisions beginning in 2011. In the past, the girls event has divisions of 12 and under and 13-18. The 11 and under divisions will play 9 holes on June 13th only, the 12-13 division will play 18 holes on June 13th only and the 14-15 and 16-18 divisions will play 36 holes, 18 on June 13th and 18 on June 14th.

“Running the state’s top junior amateur championships at the same time and at the same site makes sense for both associations, for the host courses and for the contestants and their families”, said IGA Executive Director Bill Dickens. “We will be able to accommodate the number of entries we’ve seen in these championships in recent years and there is room for some growth in both events. We believe this decision will increase the efficiency and quality of the administration for both the events.”

The 2010 Iowa PGA Pee Wee Tour Championship was held at Brown Deer Golf Club in Iowa City on Wednesday, July 28. Kolby Shackelford took top honors by winning the Boys Age 7-9 Division by shooting a one over par 37 for the nine holes. Kolby’s round included his first ever eagle on a par 4. The Iowa PGA Junior Championship was held at Lake Panorama National GC on Thursday, July 22 with 115 juniors participating. Over 200 juniors tried to qualify for this Major Point event on the 2010 Iowa Junior Tour schedule. Will Babcock placed 3rd in the 11 & Under Age Division and George Appleseth finished 6th. Trevor Babcock (12-13) and Hunter Grunsted (14-15) also made the field of 115.

George Appleseth fired a 9-hole score of 43 to capture the 5th Annual Panorama Pee Wee Championship today at Lake Panorama National Golf Course. George’s score of 43 is a new pee wee tournament course record.

Jack Raibikis from Des Moines defended his Junior Open Crown by shooting a 38-33-71 and was again the winner in the Age 16-18 Division.

Panorama Boys and Girls took home plenty of trophies and awards with top finishes in several age Divisions including 3 Runner-up Finishers: Will Babcock, Age 10, Ella Waddle, Age 9 and Under, and Kolby Shackelford in the Age 7-8 Division. Also, a member of LPN and the Panorama Junior Golf League, Ben Clement from Earlham was the Champion in the Age 10 Division. Courtney Leinen, grand daughter of LPN Members Orville and Kathleen Leinen was the Champion in the girls Age 14-15 Division.

LPN Junior League Members also had some 3rd Places Finishers: Jordan Eng was 3rd place in the Age 12-13 Division and Michael Peterson placed 3rd in the Age 11-12 Division.

Panorama Boys have Strong Showing at Iowa PGA Junior Tour Classic

The Junior Tour Classic #1 was held at Fort Dodge CC on Monday, July 12 with 105 participants. The weather was great and the golf was even better. The Iowa PGA thanks Title Sponsor The Principal Charity Classic and Presenting Sponsor Doyle Golf for their support of the Iowa Junior Tour.

George Appleseth fired a 9-hole score of 39 and finished runner-up in the Age 11 and Under Division. Will Babcock was right behind finishing 3rd place with a 9-hole score of 43. Trevor Babcock, playing in the age 12-13 division shot an 18-hole score of 47-47-94 and finished 10th place. Congratulations to LPN Boys on another great tournament

Grinnell, IA, June 28, 201047th Annual Larry Crawford State Pee Wee Championship

Panorama Boys made the best of a windy day at Grinnell Country Club during the State Pee Wee Championship today and brought home plenty of hardware. Will Babcock fired a 9-hole score of 38 and was crowned State Champ in the 10-year old division. This is Will's fifth State Title as he was also champion at Age 5, 7, 8 and 9. Kolby Shackelford was Runner-Up in the 8-year old division missing 1st place by one stroke. George Appleseth playing in his first State Pee Wee finished 4th in the age 11 group. Trevor Babcock had a great 18 hole round and was a trophy winner finishing 5th place in the 12-year old Division.

The Junior Golf School for 2010 was put on in the month of June and finished at the Par 3 West golf course with a Pizza Party.

The season opener Junior Tour Kick Off was held at Pheasant Ridge GC in Cedar Falls on Thursday, June 10 with 131 juniors ages 21 & under participating. Junior Golf Equipment

The Lake Panorama National Pro Shop carries a variety of golf equipment for junior golfers. We are a partner with U.S. Kids Golf—the No. 1 Brand in Junior golf – worldwide. We also stock junior equipment from Paragon Sports. We use a fitting method to ensure juniors have the right length of golf clubs. In addition to clubs, we sell gloves, golf shoes and many other accessories for the junior golfer.

Statewide Tournaments

In addition to events at Lake Panorama, juniors have access to many golf activities in Iowa. To check tournament information at other courses please visit the Iowa PGA Section and Iowa Golf Association websites. The Iowa PGA section has the Pee Wee Tour and Junior Golf Tour available. The websites are: iowapga.com and iowagolf.org.

Every year we travel to the State Pee Wee in Grinnell and a few other Pee Wee tour and Junior Tour sites. As our program gets bigger, we may need some help with transportation.

We are also coordinating events with our sister courses of our Reciprocal Agreement to take our junior league members to their facility at no charge. Those courses are Carroll Country Club, Indianola Country Club, Ames Country Club, Fort Dodge Country Club, Briarwood Club in Ankeny, Mason City Country Club, Bent Tree Golf Club in Council Bluffs and Lake Creek Country Club. More details to follow.

The 1st Annual Lake Panorama Junior Open and the 4th Annual Lake Panorama National Pee Wee Championships were held yesterday, July 8th.

The kids from Panora had a great day! We had a record 94 players from across the state of Iowa. The tournament was broadcasted live on FM 107.9.

Matt Mikkelsen from Panora tied for low score with a 75 in the Age 16-18 division and lost in a sudden death playoff to Jack Raibikis from Des Moines for the Championship.

Two Course Records were broken by Panora Junior League Boys! Jordan Eng, Panora, fired a round of 46 (pee wee course record) to capture the age 11-12 division. Will Babcock, Panora, recorded a course record two over par 38 and won the 9 year old division.

Jaelyn Waddle and Ella Waddle from Panora finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectivley in the age 8 under girls division. George Appleseth, Age 10 was third place in that division with a score of 60 for 9 holes. Kolby Shackelford, Panora, placed 4th in the 7-8 year old division.

Other top finishers from Panora were Sammy Kemble (16-18), Hunter Grunsted (14-15), Austin Moore (14-15), Trevor Babcock (11-12), Max Monthei (11-12), Adam Hackfort (11-12), Hunter Kuta (11-12), and Kennedy Kuta (8 and under)

Panorama Boys Take Two Titles at State Pee Wee!

Grinnell, IA.

Two Members at Lake Panorama National are Crowned State Pee Wee Champions. Will Babcock and Kolby Shackelford made the most of a windy day at Grinnell Country Club on Monday, June 29th at the 46th Annual Larry Crawford State Pee Wee Championship.

Will was Champion in the 9-year old division by shooting at 9 hole score of 45. He won by 11 strokes! This is Will's 4th State Title as he also was the champion at ages 5, 7, and 8.

Kolby Shackelford won the 7-year old division by shooting a tournament course record 21 on the 5-hole hybrid course. This was Kolby's second trip to the state tournament as he finished 3rd in 2008.

Trevor Babcock rounded out the entries from Panora and had a top finish in the 11-year old class.

Schnell and Babcock Advance at LPN Qualifiers

Schnell Tops Schall at U.S. Senior Open Qualifier:

Two of Iowa’s best Club Professionals got their first shot at the U. S. Senior Open and ended up in a playoff for the only qualifying spot at Lake Panorama National Golf Course on June 22nd . Curt Schnell of Milford and Ken Schall of Clive both fired one-under-par 71 but Schnell rolled in a 10 foot putt for birdie on the first playoff hole to earn his way to the National Senior Open. Upon finishing their rounds both players felt that 71 would not be good enough but the golf course played very tough. So, the two 50-year-old “rookies” had to play one more hole in the extreme 95 degree heat to decide who would advance. The 2009 U. S. Senior Open will be played July 30 – August 2 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

Wetrich fires 5-under 67 to lead all scorers at Iowa PGA Junior Qualifier; Babcock advances:

Michael Wetrich from Ottumwa fired the days low round of 67 at the PGA Junior Qualifier at Lake Panorama GC. Panora qualified one player to the Championship -- Will Babcock (age 9) qualified in the age 11 and under by shooting a round of 52. The Championship will be contested next month at South Hills GC in Waterloo, Iowa. Congratulations to all the qualifiers and all who survived the 114 heat index!

Lake Panorama National Golf Course provides many opportunities for juniors to get involved in golf. Below highlights some of our programs for 2009.

Annual Junior Golf Memberships. (open to public)
LPN offers Memberships to Juniors under age 18 at the following rates:

LPA Members: $315+tax
Non Residents of LPA: $325+tax

Note: Junior Memberships not required if parents purchase Family Golf Membership.

Individual Junior Golf Lessons: (open to public)
LPN offers lessons to juniors from our PGA Professionals John Dinnebier, Gary Babcock and Mike Kleinwolterink.

Junior Lesson Rates: $20 per half hour lesson.

11th Annual Junior Golf School (open to public)

Note: The Family Tee Program is a great way for beginning golfers to get out and learn the game in a pressure-free atmosphere. It’s also a great way to encourage family togetherness. Starting times are spaced out beginning at 5:30 allowing plenty of time between groups so players do not feel pressured. We recommend juniors tee off from the 150 Yard Poles in center of the fairway. Everyone – Mom, Dad, and the Kids – Play from the same tees.

Winter Open Gym at the Elementary School (panorama school boys and girls)

A program started by Gary Smool on Thursday nights at 7pm. Thanks to the help of volunteers and contributors we now have available golf nets, golf mats, teaching aids and drills. Free instruction, advice and tips are available from High School Golf Coaches Gary Smool, Hal Rossow, and PGA Member Gary Babcock.

Panorama Boys Shine at State Pee Wee again!

The 45th Annual Larry Crawford State Pee Wee Golf Championship was contested at the Grinnell Golf and Country Club on Monday, June 30th. The boys from Panorama shined again!

Will Babcock was crowned State Champion in the 8-year old division. This is Will's 3rd title as he was champion at age 5 in 2005 and age 7 in 2007. He finished runner-up in 2006 in the 6-year old class. Trevor Babcock earned a medal for his top 10 finish in the 10-year old division.

Kolby Shackelford placed 3rd in the 6-year old division in his first appearance at the state tournament.

Legendary hall of fame broadcaster "Frosty" Mitchell was on hand and broadcasting the championship on KGRN radio. He also awarded the boys their medals and trophies. Over 120 Pee Wee golfers [ages 12 and under] from across the state were participating in Iowa's largest and oldest Pee Wee Championship.

3rd Annual National Pee Wee:

Lake Panorama National presents the 3rd Annual National Pee Wee Championship. Conducted with the help of the Iowa Pee Wee Tour, this superb event was a big hit the past two years at Lake Panorama.

This years event is scheduled for, Thursday, July 24, 2008. Age Divisions of 5 thru 12 along with boys and girls divisions. The Entry Fee per player is $20.00. Entry includes green fees and prizes.

There will be walking scorers with each group provided by Lake Panorama National along with the awards ceremony on the 9th green and on the patio by the scoreboard.

Tee Times will based based on the number of entries and will be published after July 19. Tee Times will begin with the oldest age division teeing off first. Call for special practice round prices along with lodging availability. Entry Deadline is July 17, 2008.

2nd Annual National Pee Wee

Lake Panorama National presents the 2nd Annual National Pee Wee Championship. Conducted with the help of the Iowa Pee Wee Tour, this superb event was a big hit last year at Lake Panorama.

This years event is scheduled for, Thursday, August 2, 2007. Age Divisions of 5 thru 12 along with boys and girls divisions. The Entry Fee per player is $20.00. Entry includes green fees and prizes.

There will be walking scorers with each group provided by Lake Panorama National along with the awards ceremony on the 9th green and on the patio by the scoreboard.

Tee Times will based based on the number of entries and will be published after July 31. Tee Times will begin with the oldest age division teeing off first. Call for special practice round prices along with lodging availability.

Entry Deadline is July 27, 2007

Lake Panorama National and its golf professional staff is dedicated to growing the game of golf for juniors. Our schools, camps, and tournaments are conducted in a way that improves the skills of junior golfers along with their life skills that can be learned from playing the wonderful game of golf.

For 2007, we have added a junior golf camp along with continuing our successful events like junior golf school and our national pee wee tournament.
